Hello, and welcome to Film Focus! My name is Caitlin Reid, and I’m thrilled to have you here.

As a filmmaker and videographer with a passion for storytelling, I created this blog to support neurodivergent individuals who dream of exploring the world of filmmaking.
Whether you aspire to work professionally in the film industry or simply want to make films for fun, Film Focus is here to guide you on your journey.
Why I Started Film Focus
As someone who is neurodivergent myself, and who tutors neurodivergent children, I understand the challenges that can come with learning a new skill like filmmaking. I have ADHD, high-functioning autism, and stress-induced dyslexia, which means I’ve had to navigate unique obstacles while pursuing my creative passions. Over the years, I’ve discovered techniques and tools that work well for me, and I want to share them with others who might face similar challenges.
Filmmaking is an incredible form of self-expression, but the traditional ways it’s taught can sometimes feel overwhelming or inaccessible to neurodivergent learners.
My goal is to break down those barriers by offering clear, visually engaging resources tailored to diverse learning styles. I also want to take a holistic approach, addressing not just the technical aspects of filmmaking but also stress management and emotional well-being—because filmmaking should be empowering, not draining.
Who This Blog Is For
Film Focus is designed for neurodivergent artists and individuals, including those with:
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Dyslexia
Anxiety
Depression
And other common forms of neurodivergence, such as Dyspraxia
While I’ll touch on all these forms of neurodivergence, the blog will have a particular focus on ADHD. ADHD is common in the film and visual arts community, and its characteristics—like boundless creativity and high energy—can be both a strength and a challenge.
But whether you’re navigating ADHD, autism, or another form of neurodivergence, this blog will offer insights, tips, and resources to help you thrive.
